The course will cover topics on a range of topics including: study design in occupational epidemiology, exposure assessment, theories and models of non-standard work and health outcomes. The course will highlight modern methods and recent methodological approaches in occupational epidemiology, with a particular focus on international efforts in coordination and harmonisation in the field.
The format of the course will be based on a series of faculty lectures, student presentations, and student exercises.
Basic knowledge of epidemiology, occupational health, or a related discipline is required. Participants will be provided with a certificate upon completion.

Welcome to the course "HISTOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF
PLACENTAL MALARIA"
This course is the second of the two courses on placental histology prepared
for the Pyrapreg teams.
The main objectives of the course are:
- To learn how to recognize the basic structures of the placenta in an
histological study
- To learn how to identify the malarial parasites and pigment in a placental
sample
- To know how a histological evaluation form of a placenta in studies on malaria in pregnancy should be completed
The course is organized in four sections, which
include a total of 4 lessons.
In the virtual campus, you will find for the different lessons a series of
materials that may include:
- Narrated PowerPoint presentations
- PDFs of the different presentations to facilitate the personal study of the
contents of the lessons
- "Standard operating procedures" (SOP), with a detailed description
of the main technical procedures.
Although the estimated duration of the course is 26 hours, all materials will be available to the attendees for two full weeks. During this one-week period, any questions raised by attendees will be answered by the training team. A forum has been opened in the virtual campus to allow you posting any questions you may have.
All the materials are in English, but questions posted in French or Portuguese will also be accepted.
The course includes sessions of virtual microscopy. You will have the opportunity to study some representative slides of placentas using your computer as a microscope.
Once you feel comfortable with your skills, you should complete a few slides in section 4. These slides will be your final evaluation, which will be used to make sure that you have reached the objectives of the course.
Before completing the final evaluation, you have in section three a series of cases self evaluation. These slides will not be used for your evaluation. You should use them to evaluate yourselves your preparedness for the final evaluation
Welcome to the
course "PLACENTAL SAMPLING IN STUDIES ON MALARIA IN PREGNANCY"
This course is the first one of the two courses on placental histology that
have been prepared for the Pyrapreg teams.
The main objectives of the course are:
- To learn how to manipulate a fresh placenta and obtain an adequate smear and
a sample for histology
- To understand the need of standardization and quality in the handling and
processing of the placental samples
The course is organized in four sections, which include a total of 11 lessons.
